Tourism Planning Education Tour Conducted for University of the Cordilleras at Casa San Pablo

THERE HAS NEVER BEEN a better time for small town tourism than today. This was the key message delivered to 136 students of College of Hospitality and Tourism Management of the University of the Cordilleras last December 6, 2013 at Casa San Pablo. The students came to Casa to gather inputs for their course on Planning for Sustainable Tourism. Innkeeper An Mercado-Alcantara welcomed the students and conducted a lecture on rural tourism as a global trend.

The story of Casa San Pablo and other members of Viaje del Sol were presented as case studies for sustainable tourism. The students also learned from the talk the four tourism movements which they got to experience during their stay: Culinary Tourism, Heritage Tourism, Authentic Tourism, and Eco Tourism. The lecture kicked off their immersion experiences in other destination in San Pablo. A visit to Lake Pandin exposed them to community-based eco-tourism, a visit to Sulyap Gallery Cafe exposed them to Heritage tourism, and at Casa San Pablo they experienced authentic tourism as well as culinary tourism.

The inputs on the talk made the students deeper understand the concept of Tourism Development in small towns such as San Pablo. The students also had an opportunity to do team building activities at the Casa San Pablo Junk Art Garden. They also had time to relax, swim, and enjoy the Casa ground.

The education tour is designed by Casa San Pablo for tourism and HRM students.
