Balikbayan Family Heads to Tacloban After Stay in Casa San Pablo

Dec

THEY HAD PLANNED A relaxing vacation in the Philippines, but when this balikbayan family saw the devastation in Tacloban, they changed all their plans and decided to head for Tacloban to help in the relief efforts. Mark and Jo Stevens are missionaries from Australia. Jo was born in the Philippines and longed for her twin daughters to connect with her homeland, so she planned this trip home with them. Casa San Pablo was a choice stop in their well-planned itinerary prepared by their friend Esther. But after their two-day stay with us, they felt they had enough rest and longed to be of service to the victims of typhoon Yolanda. The day after their stay, they boarded a plane to Tacloban, logging with them boxes of construction materials to give away, bought from money sent by friends and fellow missionaries.

We consider it a privilege to get to know our guests and to share their stories. But this particular encounter left a deep mark with us. We instantly felt a connection with the couple and their girls. They were warm, appreciative, and over flowing with the presence of God. When we invited them to our home, we felt like they were long lost family. You can see the affection between us in the photos here.

Before they left, Jo and Mark took us aside and asked if we could pray together. We were expecting a big busload of guests at any minute but we paused and prayed with them, and as we did, the world seemed to stop and their prayers lifted us up.

Thank you Stevens Family for choosing Casa San Pablo for your family vacation in San Pablo, Laguna, Philippines.
